The wonderful wizard of reality
I subscribe to a “word of the day” email that sends a different, usually obscure, word each day. (www.wordsmith.org)
Here are the listings from last week. utopia, cockaigne, shangri-la, Garden of Eden and Land of Oz. What they have in common is none of them actually exist. They are all places of an idealized life that people wish for. They aren’t real.
Then today I read this:
Reality can be a difficult place to live. Sometimes it seems impossible to stay in the here and now. From time to time we all revisit the past and yearn for the future. This is natural. Being present every minute of the day is impossible for anyone. Still, we can strive to be present for as many minutes as we can. A small dose of reality is better than no reality at all.
Dreams are fine, escaping reality is not. What are you not facing that if you did face it life your life would get better? It may not be easy to address it, maybe it is a conversation you have been avoiding, but you need to address it. Don’t wish for it to get better. Get into your reality and make it better.
" ...it was one of the most dynamic and interesting talks I have ever witnessed on general leadership and effective management. I thought it was very interesting to see how you approached the topic from the bottom up -- from the grunt's perspective. This made the topic very easy for me to relate to and gave me ideas on how to develop the leaders I am responsible for."
