The Veterans Day Shootout and 8K

OK, I am taking a chance here and doing some PR for a great cause and a great event. I am VERY sensitive to not soliciting anything but ideas from my readers but here goes. I trust you will understand.

The USO – The mission of the USO is to enhance the quality of life of the U.S. Armed Forces personnel and their families worldwide and to create a cooperative relationship between U.S. military communities and involved or supporting civilian communities. The USO is a non-profit organization that relies on the generosity (read that as donations and money) of Americans to keep it going.

On November 10, 2008 (the Marine Corps Birthday, by the way) there will be a golf outing called the Veterans Day Shootout. There will be an 8K run also. Of course, if you are not in NC you will now think to hit the delete key. Please do not do that yet. If you know someone in NC, please forward this to them so they can help us get the word out. I can almost guarantee that we will sell out the available spots for golfers in a few weeks. Corporate sponsorships are available too. If you don’t live in NC, I encourage you to look for a similar event in your neighborhood and find a way to support it.

I know that non-profits across the country are seeing lower contributions and donations this year because of the economy. I know you have been paying $4/gallon for gasoline. I also know that the operational tempo in Iraq and Afghanistan remains very high. In other words, there is a critical need to support the USO because when you do this you are directly supporting the troops who are putting it ALL on the line for us.

As of Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008, at least 4,140 members of the U.S. military have died in the Iraq war since it began in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. Since the start of U.S. military operations in Iraq, 30,509 U.S. service members have been wounded in hostile action, according to the Defense Department’s weekly tally. Afghanistan has claimed 507 American lives. And hundreds of thousands are serving in uniform right now. They are on duty as you read this. They need your support.

To learn more about the NC event you can click here. Help us get the word out or sign up to be a sponsor. http://www.uso-nc.org/rdugolf.html

I know you are proud of our men and women serving in uniform. I know you want to help. This is your chance. Help the USO this Veterans Day.

"Thanks so much for being with us... You clearly moved many folks and the commitment sheets that we are getting back are better than we had expected.... Thanks so much for the tremendous amount of effort that you put into the presentation.  We fully realize what a valuable contribution this was. "
