The Problem with Rules
So, a 6 year old Cub Scout brings his handy dandy multi purpose camping utensil (with small KNIFE) to school and faces 45 days in reform school.
Well, there is a policy…and this is the problem. There are some people who want to make a policy for everything and they end up punishing the very people they were supposed to protect.
Do you have rules at work? Do you follow them? Are some of them stupid? Have they constrained your ability to apply common sense to a situation. Leadership is not black and white. Leaders learn to work in the gray area.
In other words, leaders dont make too many rules. I hope you don’t make too many rules.
