Rock and Roll…
Working in Cleveland today, client dinner at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I could have flown home but, what the heck, I’d never been to the Hall of Fame.
Before I go any further I need to tell you that I am not really a music guy. Certainly not a rock and roller. I own 5 CDs; Jazz, Big Band, even military marches and those are only because my new car has a CD player. But I don’t own any rock and roll recordings (of any kind). So, I thought the visit would be interesting but beyond that? Not sure.
WOW. What a place. Put it on your list if you are in Cleveland. Allow at least a half-day, some people say two days (I guess if you are into music). It wasn’t so much the memorabilia and artifacts it was – well – the music. These are songs we grew up with, or may have been famous before I grew up, but the bottom-line is you KNOW these songs. To an extent they are the soundtrack of your life and that was pretty cool. We all associate certain times of our lives with certain songs and tonight I heard some of those songs.
Moral of the story. We benefit when we step outside our normal routines. When we expose ourselves to new ideas and experiences we grow or, at least, have fun. I could have flown home tonight but I will go home first thing in the AM and still be home for lunch. And I will have had a private showing of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
What opportunities are you missing because you are stuck in established routines?
"As a result of the session you delivered to my group, using “No Yelling” as the guide we have experienced an exceptional start to our 2009 construction season. Safety as usual is paramount, and our production rates have exceeded even my high expectations. There has been a positive shift in ownership from all that attended, which leads me to believe we could have the same success if we did the same kind of training with our front line labor force."
