National Speakers Assn National Convention

I am in NYC at the convention of the National Speakers Association. This is THE annual event of one of my professional trade associations. Imagine a few thousand professional speakers in one room – There is alot of energy in the room. For those of you who know me I am actually on the low end of the spectrum when it comes to loudness. I will match my intensity with anyone here but not my loudness.

Why is it that the loudest and most showy people are often the least successful? Is that all a show to compensate for something whereas those who are truly successful and grounded dont have to brag about anything? This relates to some old lines. One from a General who said if you have to tell people you are in charge, you probably arent, and I think Margaret Thatcher who said, if you have to tell someone you are a lady, you probably arent.

Chapter three of No Yelling is about setting the example. What example do you set by your words and your actions? People are watching you all the time and you must be vigilant to demonstrate the proper behavior. As a leader you are a role model, like it or not.
