Millenial Mailbox
OK, so we all know that different generations have different expectations and ways of communicating.
Today I heard of a (no longer employed) millennial and mail. After this young man was on the job for a few weeks the CEO noticed his mailbox, you know, that cubby amongst other cubbys where interoffice and other types of paper get placed, was full.
The CEO asked if the young man was on vacation or out sick. The answer was no. He then asked his assistant to ask the young man about his inbox. The young man replied that if it didn’t come to him electronically, he didn’t deal with it.
Did I mention he no longer has a job?
As funny as this sounds it is a true story that underscores the challenge of cross-generation communications. As soon as you think you have it figured it out is probably the moment something goes wrong!
Keep at it.
"Thanks so much for being with us... You clearly moved many folks and the commitment sheets that we are getting back are better than we had expected.... Thanks so much for the tremendous amount of effort that you put into the presentation. We fully realize what a valuable contribution this was. "
