I never really liked April Fools Day
Enroute to Chicago on United airlines today. About 30 minutes out the pilot comes on to tell us we are diverting to Milwaukee because Ohare was closed. I didn’t have to be to my event until noon the next day, so I had some time. If this was not the case I would have been a bit more stressed and was already running options in my head anyway. (you do this if you travel enough)
Ten minutes later the pilot came on and said we were going to Ohare, “April Fools.” I really wasn’t amused.
Am I a stick in the mud or was this simply a harmless joke?
Oh, and even if I wanted to complain I could only do it online. United no longer has a customer service phone number. What does that tell you about how they feel about customers?

A sense of humor is nice, but, after being a UAL flight attendant for 29 yrs., I can understand why people would be upset for any number of reasons- connections, family emergencies, etc. etc. I think the pilot just used the wrong way to play his joke (we really DO need some smiles in the skies – especially since 9/11). But I totally agree with Wally that United really doesn’t want to have to deal with complaints- the dumb-heads at World HQ (as UAL calls it) would rather just let the front-line employees deal with the complaints while the fat cats collect their fat salaries.
