Happy Valentines Day (yup)

I write this on December 22nd. Today, I went the store (the same store that was open on Thanksgiving) and they had Valentine’s Day items in display and for sale. Most places put Christmas stuff up in October these days (a full 60 days prior) so I guess they are late since Feb 14 is less than 60 days away!

My point is not about rampant commercialism (although that would be a good point, it would be too easy). My point is about not taking time to fully appreciate the many blessings we have. Rather than live in the moment and fully experience life and all it has to offer we are often looking ahead to the next whatever, mindlessly hoping for the next big break, irresponsibly putting off what til whenever what we could be doing today (or at least making progress toward today anyway).

This is one of the most special times of the year and people are already looking towards the New Year, the new administration and the new diet. Sure be on the lookout and aware of what is coming next but focus too much on the future and miss the now.

I once remarked to a buddy that “memories are what the future is made of.” That line has stuck with me. You can’t create a future full of memories if you aren’t fully living in the present to create those memories in the first place.

Enjoy every moment of this fantastic time of year. There are plenty of things to be upset about. There are even more to be thankful for, grateful for, and to live fully for. And those things are here, now. Go ahead, make memories.

"As a result of the session you delivered to my group, using “No Yelling” as the guide we have experienced an exceptional start to our 2009 construction season. Safety as usual is paramount, and our production rates have exceeded even my high expectations. There has been a positive shift in ownership from all that attended, which leads me to believe we could have the same success if we did the same kind of training with our front line labor force."
