Celebrate success and achievement

Just had dinner with my client. Actually, it was with 23 students who have gone through a course of study over the past three years. Because of their geography and workload it is only possible for us to meet in the spring. We have covered a number of supervisory skills and tonight was graduation.

Like most graduations this involved dinner and diplomas. The President of the firm talked of his pride in the group and then gave each their diploma. In the grand scheme of things this evening wasn’t THAT special. But in the life of these leaders and the culture of this successful firm this was special. In fact, this type of recognition is an important part of developing leaders and reinforcing culture. It may have taken a bit of extra effort and a few extra dollars but the return on this investment is worth it.
