Castles in the Sand
I know, the quote is really about castles in the sky but not today. We are spending a few days at the beach while the kids are out of school. What is it about the beach that causes children, often with parental help, to build sand castles with moats and other defensive measures? We select a place securely out of the way of the waves but we know the tide will come in and our work will be erased. Seems like a waste of time doesn’t it? We even work more furiously and with greater urgency as the waves approach closer but we still work.
Did I work in the sand to spend time with kids? Sure. Did I work in the sand to create? I guess so. Did I work in the sand to waste time? I guess so. Did I work in the sand and forget about work for a while? Absolutely.
What’s my point? We all need to spend some time in the sand from time to time. Our lives are so filled with stresses and challenges that the work in the sand becomes even more important. Will a few hours in the sand remove all my stress? No. I still have much work to do but a few hours away from the cell phone is actually a pretty good feeling and one I encourage all of you to try.
So, keep building them castles in the sand. They may get washed away and then you get to start again next time, with a clean beach.
"Wally’s presentation was fast paced, engaging and right on target. His mix of personal adversity and success was inspiring to our management team. I’ve received countless accolades from my staff regarding Wally’s presentation. More importantly, Wally was able to incorporate our Corporate Values and Culture into his presentation. I would highly recommend Wally Adamchik and look forward to inviting him back for future presentations."
