Calories vs Nutrition
One of our highly successful programs is about proper nutrition. I always get an eye roll when I propose it but I also always get a hearty thanks once it is done. Mike Neller does a great job.
As a result of watching Mike I think alot about this subject….More than most people. The bottom-line is if your people are sick or run down they will not perform well and that means your bottom line goes down..
Check out this tidbit…Since 1985 the average American diet has grown by 304 calories. In theory that is enough to add an extra 31 pounds per person per year. (Heck, I can do that at Mrs Fields pretty quickly)
The conversation about calories is not enough though. We need to be aware of nutrients and quality of calories. 300 calories of cake is not equal to 300 calories of Kale. Our western diet is loaded with cholesterol, salt and sugar.
You already know what to do. Moderation is the key…If I can keep my visits to Mrs Fields to two a month I have a chance. When I go there moderation is not in the equation.
It was interesting also to see more companies listed at Great Places to Work doing more in this eating/health area.
What do you need to moderate in your diet? What can you do for your employees to encourage health.
