And who said pro athletes are only in it for the money.
OK, I don’t know the answer to this but the question at hand is do players care who is the captain of their team? Does it really matter or is it simply a symbolic position that is enabled to talk to the ref?
The Pittsburgh Steelers have given their answer. They have not elected quarterback Ben Roethlisburger to the position of captain that he has held for the past two seasons. Once he returns from suspension for poor off field conduct he will certainly be a team leader. He IS the quarterback but the team is saying it expects more from the captain. Setting the example is chapter three in my book, No Yelling, and the players are saying Big Ben hasn’t done a good job there.
Offensive captain for the sixth time, Hines Ward commented on the vote and selection of Heath Miller as the other offensive captain. ”The captain’s not just what you do on the field, it’s what you do off the field,” Ward said Monday. ”Heath lives here (at the training facility), he’s constantly here during coaching sessions and off season workouts. It’s well deserved.”
If you are in any kind of leadership position people are watching you and they are holding you to a higher standard. As a leader you can give them a standard to live up to.
"Wally’s presentation was fast paced, engaging and right on target. His mix of personal adversity and success was inspiring to our management team. I’ve received countless accolades from my staff regarding Wally’s presentation. More importantly, Wally was able to incorporate our Corporate Values and Culture into his presentation. I would highly recommend Wally Adamchik and look forward to inviting him back for future presentations."
