A Perennial Problem
The difficulty of finding good leadership material is a perennial problem.
These are the words of Sun Tzu. He is the author of one of the earliest books on military strategy. Estimated to have been first published in the 6th century BC, The Art Of War is a classic and could almost be characterized a MUST READ for business readers.
Consider the opening quote of this blog. On the one hand, I guess we could just surrender ourselves to this fact and recognize that leadership material is hard to find and simply accept who we get, knowing our competitors are having a hard time too.
OR, we could recognize that this is one of the defining challenges for all organizations and accept that it is an absolute priority. Once we accept this challenge as a priority and dedicate resources to overcoming the challenge we can enjoy increased success. Of course, Sun Tzu reminds us that the problem will never go away but we can do a lot to lessen its impact.
"Thank you again for presenting at our annual meeting in Las Vegas. We have heard many very favorable comments about your program and look forward to working with you next year."
