Kids are out of school…now what! Maybe a quick blog posting.

Besides the obvious display of leadership from Martin Luther King Jr what else can we learn from this day.

For me, it has to do with stereotypes. Now, let’s face it, stereotypes do (or did) have some element of truth in them. That is how they got started. However, they get perpetuated to the disservice of all.

As a leader you lead people, not stereotypes. You don’t lead a race or a generation, you lead someone who is part of that race or generation. Your challenge is to get to know them and to lead them personally. The greater challenge is to continue to do this even if (or probably when) they exhibit a behavior that is commonly associated with the stereotype.

Lou Holtz (and probably others) always talked about giving people a standard to live up to. That correlates directly with this concept.
