NY Giants TEAM collapse
The NY football Giants staged one of the most spectacular collapses in football yesterday as they gave up 28 points in the final 7:29 to lose to the Eagles. This not only cost them the Division but it may cost them a playoff berth.
On the final play rookie punter Matt Dodge, after a high snap, punted the ball to the guy he was supposed to avoid by punting it out of bounds…Bad play Matt. What is incredible about this is people calling him out for it…saying HE was to blame for the loss. Really? Cmon fans! Get real.
The TEAM gave up 28 points. After Dodge punted the ball there were ten other Giants on the field who did not make a play. To blame Dodge for the loss is simply wrong. Scapegoats are wonderful things as they absolve others of any responsibility. Scapegoats are usually found in ones, not in flocks. Of course, there were plenty in the Giant flock yesterday but none are getting named.
To his credit, and I like the guy, Giant coach Tom Coughlin took the blame. What do you do as a leader when your team fails? The old adage of praise in public and criticize in private is a good one. But do you look at the entire team and the role of all involved or do you find the scapegoat and move on? I know what you want to say.
" ...it was one of the most dynamic and interesting talks I have ever witnessed on general leadership and effective management. I thought it was very interesting to see how you approached the topic from the bottom up -- from the grunt's perspective. This made the topic very easy for me to relate to and gave me ideas on how to develop the leaders I am responsible for."
