Very impressive!!
Now THAT, I admire…
Heck, I practically worship it. IT being a run up Pikes Peak. That would be 13 miles straight up. The fastest runners will do it in just over two hours. The slowest in six hours. The youngest runner this year was 16 and the oldest was 75. There were just over 1700 lunatics, I mean, competitors.
Steve Brooks, our lead executive coach at FireStarter has raced for the past six years. To say I admire him for doing this would be a huge understatement. I joke with Steve and say he “isnt a lot to look at but he runs the mountain so there must be something in there.” He isn’t overly muscular and he doesn’t have a runners body so when you look at him you don’t think “this guy runs up a mountain.” But he does… So there is something in there. Inside of him is a moral courage and fortitude that most people only wonder about. He trains for this endurance event and he puts it all out on the mountain.
I simply respect people who work hard and strive for a worthy goal. Now, you may not want to run a mountain but what do you want to do? Go for it. Steve does. He also does phenomenal work with our clients. Why? Because they respect him. Not for running mountains but for putting as much into his work with them as he does into running mountains. They know he cares about helping them and he works at it.
This is also a don’t judge a book by it’s cover conversation but that would be too obvious here.
OH, yeah. This year he ran his personal best. 4:00:51. He missed the magic sub-four hours by 52 seconds…is he disappointed? Maybe a tad but it was also his personal record (PR as the say in running). He did his best ever! Yea Steve! And he has his goal set for 2011. Having been so close this year he knows what he needs to do to tweak his training.
I am confident he will be sub four next year..What are you working towards?
"As a result of the session you delivered to my group, using “No Yelling” as the guide we have experienced an exceptional start to our 2009 construction season. Safety as usual is paramount, and our production rates have exceeded even my high expectations. There has been a positive shift in ownership from all that attended, which leads me to believe we could have the same success if we did the same kind of training with our front line labor force."
