Hero Revisited
I haven’t had a chance to review the sports pages from this past weekend but I am sure there were several “heroic” performances according to the reporters.
Let’s check in on Websters.com for the definition of hero.
1. a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.
2. a person who, in the opinion of others, has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal.
Okay, forget the gender part. From this definition I am not sure our athletes from the weekend qualify. Check out this link and I think you will find someone who has distinguished herself by her courage to persevere and help others.

By the way, I served with John Ruocco and count him a true friend. As did the hundreds that showed up at his funeral that cold January day in Boston.
Today is Veterans Day. I am in Canada and ALOT of people wear red poppies. Not sure what you are going to do, but do something. And on Memorial Day you can do something to remember Sgt. Charles I. Cartwright, 26, of Union Bridge, Md., who died Nov. 7 while supporting combat operations in Farah province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command, Camp Pendleton, Calif.
Like I said, today is Veterans Day. A wave, a nod, a prayer, a donation. It matters to those men and women serving that you are aware of and care about them.
