It’s a Marine thing. We celebrate our founding and we take it seriously. Flying out of Raleigh yesterday I was wearing a Marine T-shirt. A police officer comes up to me and asks if I had been a Marine. After I said yes he extended his hand and said Happy Birthday. Then he told two of the TSA guys working the line and they came over too.
Let’s review: Three men I dont even know taking time to wish me a Happy Marine Corps birthday. And I offered it right back. Do such things happen at your place of work? Probably not. Firms do a poor job of this and that isn’t good as this type of activity creates and reinforces a positive workplace culture.

November 10 2009 marks the 234 birthday of the United States Marines. So, you can celebrate today by wishing a Marine you see on the street or a former one you know in the workplace – happy birthday..
