In Praise of Slowness
Just read a book (not speed reading) called In Praise of Slowness; Challenging the Cult of Speed by Carl Honore. Very thought provoking.
He asserts that faster is not always better. In fact, faster could be slower as it causes us to be less productive in some cases. He is not against fast, he is against fast always. He is for slow when it makes sense. Slow allows time for contemplation and connection. Slow allows mind and body to work together.
Sure some of the obvious things come to mind here. Drive slower, meditate, and eat slowly to savor the meal. But there are some not so obvious. Work slower to be more productive, slower sex to for heightened arousal, and slower childhoods so we don’t burn out our children.
It is an easy and enjoyable read that is very thought provoking. It is worth your time, if you have any to spare. Of course, if you don’t have time to spare then you are the person who needs the book most!
"I've had some very positive feedback from many of our employees and you definitely made a very constructive impact on our organization. I'm confident the day we invested with you will serve as a catalyst for an outstanding year and beyond!"
