Do you facebook, twitter, blog, etc etc?
I attended our local National Speakers Assn chapter meeting this past weekend and the focus was technology. Facebook, twitter, vimeo, podcasts, gcast, linkedin, etc etc etc. All quite interesting and increasingly easy to use.
One of the big questions from attendees was the ROI of such activities. As business owners (some sole practitioners and some larger businesses too) it boils down to if it is all worth the effort. If you are part of a corporation does it make any sense for you, or your firm, to participate in these new technologies? Well, it depends. Certainly your firm may have some legal restrictions on you blogging but you can certainly use linked in.
I have been hearing about these things for years but haven’t done much with them. I need to do more. That much I know. I also shouldn’t expect work from such efforts but the point is to be anywhere people might be looking. I can also make all my articles available as podcasts, simply by calling them in to a service that records the call and makes the file. I told you it was getting easier.
The point is that these social networking tools are real and are worth investigating. Maybe you need a presence to help in recruiting Gen Y. Also, like all networking you actually have to do some work. Simply posting your information online will yield little. So, you see there is no easy answer here except to learn more.
I learned alot this weekend and I have more to do. You might as well get started too.
