Are You Your Resume

In the hit musical “A Chorus Line” there is a piece that asks, “Are you your resume?” Interesting question.

I think there should be two answers to it.

First answer, YES. Absolutely, this is me. There are no factual errors. Everything you see correctly depicts me and what I have done.

Second answer, NO. There is no way a two dimensional piece of paper can describe me as a person. Think about a menu. It can describe the meal but the meal stands alone. It has taste and texture. It has character.

Don’t think this just applies to individuals. We should look at this from a corporate perspective too. What is your reputation? Your brand promise? Do people get more than your website says they will or do you not even live up to the expectations you create?

So, are you your resume?

"As a result of the session you delivered to my group, using “No Yelling” as the guide we have experienced an exceptional start to our 2009 construction season. Safety as usual is paramount, and our production rates have exceeded even my high expectations. There has been a positive shift in ownership from all that attended, which leads me to believe we could have the same success if we did the same kind of training with our front line labor force."
