Reggie Bush isn’t THAT sorry

Sports headlines today…

Former USC standout and now New Orleans Saint, Reggie Bush, talked to new USC athletic director on the phone and was “really contrite,” according to Haden.

Bush took payments and compensation, in violation of NCAA rules. Was this a big deal? Well, the NCAA vacated 14 wins from his time and may strip USC of its 2004 BCS title. Additionally, USC had 30 scholarships taken away from it and is banned from bowl games for two years. He is banned from campus and all mention of him have been removed from view around USC. Yeah, this was a big deal.

Bush also won the Heisman Trophy. Each year two trophies are minted. One for the winner and one for the school. The school has already sent there copy back. In the phone call with Haden Bush reportedly said, “If I could turn the clock back, I would. If I could give the Heisman Trophy back, I would.”

Ummm. Reggie. You can give it back. In fact, you SHOULD give it back.

Maybe he didn’t learn much at college. But he doesn’t need anyone to give him permission to give it back. He doesn’t need an agent or the Downtown Athletic Club (sponsor of the Heisman) to take action for him. He needs to do this for himself.

Haden says he was contrite. Really? I don’t see him giving the trophy back despite his statement that he would give it back if he could….I guess he isn’t that contrite.

Actions speak for louder than words and his multi-million dollar NFL contract isn’t going anywhere. He is going to be just fine but forever there will be an asterisk next to his name. He could take the high road and remove his name from the list of winners of the Heisman. He could, he said he was sorry, but he hasn’t
