Take This Job and Slide away from it
Did you see the Jet Blue flight attendant who pulled the emergency slide and slid away after a disagreement with a passenger. Before bailing on the Pitt to NYC flight after it landed at JFK, the flight attendant called the passenger a mother ****** and went on to say, “I’ve been in the business 28 years. I’ve had it. That’s it.”
Last week a shooter went wild, killing nine, at a beer distributor in Hartford alleging racist treatment.
Can it happen at your workplace? Probably. The chances are greater if you have poor leaders.
Researchers report a common trigger of workplace violence is a recent experience of humiliation. This is humiliation in the eyes of the receiver and any comments from them about such treatment are an invitation for you to investigate.
Good leaders create an environment of trust and respect. They know their people and should be able to see the potential for a bad situation.
Of course, the more people in your organization the greater the opportunity for, and challenge to detect, a case where someone might “have had it.” This means you must be training leaders at all levels on how to lead effectively.
Oh yeah, this usually increases productivity too.
