What I learned in elementary school this week
The kids finished school this week (we go year round) and I saw a few things worth sharing.
One of the teachers at the year end celebration in the classroom gave each student a personalized certificate with special recognition. There was the Best Reader (my son), Most attentive (my son not even in the running) and 25 others including Teacher Tester. Each child beamed with pride as they were singled out. A good reminder about praise being personal and positive.
At the fifth grade graduation ceremony the speaker, Duke University tight ends coach and Super Bowl champion Rod Middleton, reminded the kids, and parents, to be polite, be educated, and be a leader. Those three things can take you a long way.
I hope you have an outstanding holiday weekend.
" ...it was one of the most dynamic and interesting talks I have ever witnessed on general leadership and effective management. I thought it was very interesting to see how you approached the topic from the bottom up -- from the grunt's perspective. This made the topic very easy for me to relate to and gave me ideas on how to develop the leaders I am responsible for."
