Mark Maguire, home run king etc etc, has finally admitted to using steroids. While many are now praising him for coming clean I am compelled to go back to the good old “live with integrity” principle. Had he never used steroids he would not be in this situation. Of course, we have no idea how much of his performance can be linked to the drugs, and we will never know. Sad.

He will not be the last baseball player to come clean, so to speak. A sad commentary on the great American game but right in line with our cheating culture where the rewards for cheating are so great and the penalties so small that many are encouraged to cheat.

The quaint value of live with integrity comes back to us. And yes, we all make mistakes, but it seems the ones we cover up are the ones that come back to bite us.

Remember the principle to live with integrity. This is one of the points I shared with the students at Suffield Academy outside Hartford today. It was different talking to youth but it was fun too and they were a great audience.
