I cannot believe this still happens…

Wow, what a difference a day makes…Yesterday I talked of how a company got things right. Today, well, a different story.

I can’t go too deep in the details to protect the innocent (and my source). Some of you may know this firm. They have been on lists. You know the lists….The lists about greatest (fill in the blank etc etc). My buddy has had his picture in the magazine as the firm was profiled. Things have changed.

A new CEO arrived a few months ago and things began to change immediately. One of his first moves was to fire 25% of the headquarters staff. There is a morale builder!! Anyone from the old regime was made to feel like dirt and smear campaigns were started to make those remaining in leadership leave. Rumors, coercion and demands for personal loyalty were standard. WOW. Needless to say morale is tanking and the long term viability of the firm is no longer certain.

Here is the kicker. One of the key strategic goals for 2010 is “Empowering People.” Obviously, this has little credibility but management continues to spout it.

I cannot come up with anything intelligent to say about this. It is textbook on how to ruin a company. It still happens. Sad.
