Workers Who Are Convinced Their Company Cares About Them Reward It With Engagement

AutoNation CEO Mike Jackson’s appearances on CNBC-TV have a positive impact on employee engagement, said Julie Staub, vice president of human resources for AutoNation (of course she says that), at a recent gathering of Fort Lauderdale-area chapter members of ASTD. “I think our people are proud to be part of a company taking a leadership role.” During tough economic times when employees are being asked to do more with less, it is more important than ever to keep them engaged, and key to that engagement is a feeling of connection to the company and trust in its leadership. “Appreciation is the single largest driver of a company caring,” says Gary Peterson, vice president of research for rewards and recognition firm O.C. Tanner. But employee appreciation must be aligned with corporate goals. Peterson says that employees want to see a clear vision about where the company is going and to know “my supervisor plans my work around things that matters.”

I cant confirm that appreciation is the single largest driver of company caring. Heck, I am not even sure what that means but I do know appreciation goes a long way. Make it soon, certain and positive to have the biggest impact.

OK, go thank someone for something.
