Yes, you seem to be grasping this.
And what relevance does this comment have here? This is a story about a 'greenie' who is pro-fast reactor. Which means he's pro nuke. A lot of us 'greenies' are very pro nuke. So not only are you generalizing, but you're missing the entire point.

“Wouldn't a good 98% (2% excluded for the Linux noobs) know these things? Wine is a thing every Ubuntu user should know? I don't use Ubuntu and I know what that is!

Ironically, most the encryption that Digg users probably use to keep their data private probably originated at the NSA..
Beef bacon? Blasphemy!!

Don't worry; the odds of a digg user encountering a hypothetical scenario like that are slim!?
1 - Tucker Torpedo - Too much untested technology in a car. Current carmakers test new gadgets for years before they see the light of day, because they have to last a long time, and a single warranty repair can blow the profit margin on most cars.2 - QUBE - This actually looked pretty sweet. Must have cost a small fortune doing this with analog technology.3 - DAT - Sony *did* implement the DRM, it was called something like serial copy management system. It was a pain in the ass and made DAT decks cost a ton. 4 - HyperCard - This was pretty innovative, but not ahead of it's time. OpenDoc was ahead of it's time.5 - Phillips CD-I - The hardware completely sucked. It wasn't ahead of it's time, it was behind the curve if anything. LaserDiscs could do most of the things CD-I could do, but better.6 - Gopher - Also not ahead of it's time, it was a logical progression from the proto-WAIS projects of the late 80's.7 - Newton - Meh. They were cool at the time, but not as game-changing as the iPhone.8 - LiveJournal - Meh^2.9 - Danger HipTop - The what? A crappy camcorder bolted onto a phone is ahead of it's time?10 - Friendster - Yet another "social" site? These are all progressions from having a homepage, they just make it easier to link to other people and integrate content. The only thing groundbreaking about them is that they are popular.Get off my lawn!! |

Would I donate to digg? No.Why not? Because it's something that I don't value that much. I got along fine before digg... it's a nice distraction though.Give it sometime, the free lunches will eventually go bankrupt and viable business models will come to be (paid, ad supported, tv news...).
